This project aims to develop the strategic roadmap in response to the tender “Development of a roadmap for action for the project: Advancing aggregate exposure to chemicals in EU” (hereafter referred to as ExpoAdvance), OC/EFSA/ED/2022/04. The roadmap will allow EFSA to be prepared and to more efficiently address requests for aggregate exposure assessments for single chemicals, especially under the “one substance, one assessment” approach and to create guidance on how to best perform aggregate exposure assessment by 2030.The project foresees the collection of available knowledge and tools (using various engagement techniques with different stakeholders including, literature searches, interviews, questionaries focus groups and workshops) to map the current state of the art, identifying gaps and limitations, in aggregate exposure assessment in Europe and at a global level. The methodology will include collecting existing lines of evidence, reporting the gaps/limitations and identifying the level of complexity needed in methodologies and knowledge in order to establish an aggregate exposure assessment framework that supports tiered decision strategies. In parallel, a communication and dissemination plan will be also developed to foster collaboration and create awareness. The consortium comprises ten leading organisations in the field of human exposure assessment with a variety of expertise in the areas of toxicology, exposure modelling, human biomonitoring, regulatory chemical risk assessment , and stakeholder engagement and communication strategies. This consortium also provide with it strong networks and links to ongoing activities to create alignment and synergistic relations. These include, for example, Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC), European Human Exposome Network (EHEN), Human Biomonitoring for Europe (HBM4EU), Animal-free Safety Assessment of Chemicals (ASPIS), EFSA NAMs projects, USEPA ExpoCast program, and the ISES European Chapter working groups to name but a few.
