Betydningen av ulike utslipp fra dannelse av industridis i Grenland har vært undersøkt. Utslippene av ammoniakk, klor og saltsyre har størst betydning. Klorutslippene fører til fotokjemisk aktivitet og dannelse av PAN i le av Herøya.
