A close relationship was found between annual inorganic nitrogen loss and the fractional cover bare rock explaining 74% of the variation. It was not possible to distinguish between the N leaching from the peat and heather dominated catchments in this investigation. Nitrate loss was negatively correlated to the C\/N ratio of the soil organic horizon. Lowest soil C\/N ratios of the soil organic surface horizon occurred in catchments receiving the highest amounts of N deposition. Our data for Norwegian moorland are in agreement with previous investigations relating soil C\/N ratio and N leaching in forest soils. Runoff from the catchments showed a seasonal pattern in NO3- concentrations. The low values during the summer are presumably due to increased biological activity (plant uptake and immobilization by soil microbes). The winter and spring NO3- concentrations in 2001 in all catchments were much higher than in 2000, perhaps due to soil freezing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_searchwp_excluded":"","_id":"","_status":"PUBLISHED","_sync_date":"2026-09-11 14:11:57","footnotes":""},"nva_tax_category":[1099],"class_list":["post-116185","nva_publication","type-nva_publication","status-publish","hentry","nva_tax_category-scientific-journal-publication"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication\/116185","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/nva_publication"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication\/116185\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=116185"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"nva_tax_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_tax_category?post=116185"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
