These emerging substances are of concern given their resistance to<br \/>\ndegradation and metabolization. Some studies have reported endocrine disrupting effects for some<br \/>\nPFASs. However, there is a gap of knowledge on the potential relationships between PFASs and<br \/>\nhormones mediating the life-history trade-off between reproduction and survival, such as<br \/>\nglucocorticoids. The aims of this study were to (1) describe the concentrations of plasma<br \/>\nperfluoroalkyl sulfonates and perfluoroalkyl carboxylates in Svalbard black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa<br \/>\ntridactyla) in relation to gender and body-condition, (2) explore the relationships between PFASs<br \/>\nand corticosterone (the major glucocorticoid in birds), and (3) assess the consequences of PFAS<br \/>\nexposure for reproductive success. Perfluorononanoate was positively related to body-condition in<br \/>\nmale kittiwakes; perfluorotridecanoate and perfluorotetradecanoate to decreased baseline<br \/>\ncorticosterone in both sexes; and perfluorododecanoate was related to lower hatching success.<br \/>\nThese results underline the importance of considering each compound separately when<br \/>\ninvestigating the hazardous effects of PFASs on wildlife.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_searchwp_excluded":"","_id":"","_status":"PUBLISHED","_sync_date":"2026-09-11 14:13:57","footnotes":""},"nva_tax_category":[1099],"class_list":["post-116832","nva_publication","type-nva_publication","status-publish","hentry","nva_tax_category-scientific-journal-publication"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication\/116832","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/nva_publication"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_publication\/116832\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=116832"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"nva_tax_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/nva_tax_category?post=116832"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
