The programme, which focuses on marine species important for human consumption, was initiated by the Norwegian Food Control Authority, and is coordinated by the local Food Control Authority in Bod\u00f8. Samples of fish and shrimp caught in the coastal waters of Northern Norway and the Barents Sea during 1994, have been analysed and reported earlier (Solberg et.al. 1997). In this investigation, 36 pooled samples of 10 different species caught off the coast of Southern Norway were collected from commercial catches during 1996 and 1997, and analysed. The species were cod, haddock, saithe, pollack, wolf-fish, plaice, herring, tusk, ling, and mackerel. The analysed organochlorines were PCB, DDT, HCH, HCB, chlordans, and the heavy metals Hg, Cd and Pb.
