This directly affects the resilience of EU industries seeking to achieve Green Deal objectives for an equitable, zero emission, and digitalized Europe.<\/p>\n<h2>Digital passport for products<\/h2>\n<p>In response to these challenges, the European Commission aims to minimize the loss of secondary raw materials and optimize their reuse across value chains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCE-RISE aims to do exactly that\u201d, says project coordinator and senior scientist Golnoush Abbasi at NILU. \u201cDuring the project, we will develop an information system that increases traceability and transparency of resources in value chains. We want to make it easy for industries to trace raw materials all the way from production through use, to how and where they are treated as waste.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48370\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48370\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48370 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nilu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/ce-rise-framework-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/ce-rise-framework-1.png 800w, https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/ce-rise-framework-1-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/nilu.gnist.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/ce-rise-framework-1-768x385.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CE-RISE Conceptual Figure<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>CE-RISE will develop and pilot an integrated framework and an ensuing resource information system to identify optimal solutions for the effective reuse, recovery, and\/or recycling of materials by<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>defining a set of criteria to evaluate the extent to which products and embedded components can be reused, repaired, refurbished and\/or recycled \u2013 so called RE criteria<\/li>\n<li>incorporating information on RE criteria and material composition of products into a Digital product passport (DPP) to enable traceability of materials in the supply chain<\/li>\n<li>integrating DPP with information on the product environmental footprint (PEF), and socio-economic and environmental (SEE) impacts of RE processes<\/li>\n<li>enabling confidential and anonymized information sharing among actors throughout value chains<\/li>\n<li>providing open access software application to disseminate information on the assessment of RE criteria, PEF and SEE impacts of products to all stakeholders including consumers and policymakers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Promotes sustainable choices<\/h2>\n<p>Ultimately, CE-RISE will foster a dynamic ecosystem geared toward prolonging the use of materials in the economy.
